I saw him in a railway depot-a little old man with a decorated basket on his arm. He was passing out what looked like sticks of striped candy, wrapped in cellophane. It was the Christmas season. The station was crowded with shoppers who had been to the large city. Their faces showed the wear and tear of feverish rush as they impatiently awaited the arrival of their trains. To each of them the little old man gave a smile and to all who would take it, the cellophane-wrapped gift from his basket. I accepted the smile, and could only refuse his gift with discourtesy, so I let him drop it into my hand. When I unwrapped the stripped cylinder, I found that instead of a stick of candy, it was a paper tube within which was another piece of paper on which was written today's Scripture portion, infinitely sweeter to the soul than candy to the taste. I thanked God for the little old man and his basket of "good tidings."
